Free Zoo Day

On the first day of summer vacation, it just happened to be a free day at the zoo. Raptor's friend, Miss M. joined us and we met up with lots of friends throughout the day.  The kids were excited to see all the animals but Raptor was very sad when she was told that this zoo does not have elephants.

Looking at the owls.  This was a cute one but I can't remember what type.
A bald eagle and a golden eagle.  There was only a small fence separating us from them--no netting or anything else.  We've actually seen bald eagles soaring and nesting just north of our town which was really neat.

Some of the friends we met up with.
The younger ones were thrilled to ride the carousel but I don't know how happy Ramble was. He was a good sport though.

This porcupine was quite defensive and his quills were standing on end.  Guess he didn't like all of us looking at his girl.
Baby peacocks!  They were so cute.  They reminded me of baby ducks.
More babies--this time it was groundhogs.  Not as cute as the peacocks but the kids still liked them.
Here's part of the group just before we had to leave. Unfortunately we had to leave early so we didn't get to spend time with even more friends who came for lunch and then went on to the zoo
Meeting up with Mister J.  One of Ramble's good buddies.  .
